Murat lives on the fourth floor of an old apartment building in Istanbul. The building has no elevator, so he has to climb the stairs every day. He usually complains about it, especially when he is carrying shopping bags.
One Friday evening, Murat comes home after a tiring day. He is hungry and wants to spend a quiet evening at home. Before going upstairs, he stops at a market near his building and buys some snacks: chips, chocolate, cookies, and a bottle of water.
As he leaves the market, he notices something orange moving between two parked cars.
He stops.
“Hmm… I think I saw a cat,” he says to himself.
He waits for a few seconds, but the animal has already disappeared. Murat shrugs and continues walking.
When he reaches his building, he sees that the front door is slightly open. He enters and starts climbing the stairs with his shopping bag. By the third floor, he is already tired.
“Why does this building have four floors and no elevator?” he complains.
Just then, he hears something behind him.
“Meow.”
Murat turns around quickly. There is nothing on the stairs.
He looks down, but the hallway is empty.
“That’s strange,” he thinks.
Finally, Murat reaches his floor, unlocks the door, and goes inside. He leaves the shopping bag on the kitchen floor, changes into comfortable clothes, and throws himself onto the sofa.
A few minutes later, he hears a rustling sound from the kitchen.
Murat looks toward the door. The sound stops.
Then it starts again.
He slowly gets up.
“Please don’t be a mouse,” he whispers.
When he enters the kitchen, he sees his shopping bag moving.
Murat freezes.
Suddenly, a small orange cat jumps out of the bag.
Murat almost drops his phone.
“What?! How did you get in here?”
The cat looks at him calmly and walks toward the snacks.
“Hey! Stay away from those.”
Murat tries to catch it, but the cat runs into the living room. It jumps onto the sofa, knocks a cushion onto the floor, runs under the table, and hides behind a chair.
Murat chases it for several minutes. Soon, he is out of breath.
“I already climbed four floors today. I’m not doing cardio with you too.”
The cat just sits there and starts licking its paw like nothing happened.
At that moment, someone knocks on the door.
Murat opens it and sees one of his neighbors.
“Hi, Murat. Have you seen an orange cat? His name is Tarçın. He escaped when I opened my door.”
Murat slowly turns around.
Tarçın is now lying comfortably in the middle of his sofa.
Murat points at him.
“I think he has already changed his address.”
His neighbor starts laughing.
A few minutes later, she takes Tarçın home.
Before Murat closes the apartment door, he checks the hallway one more time.
Then he checks his shopping bag.
Twice.
And finally, Murat sits down with his snacks and chooses a movie.

📖 The Woman in the Fur Coat
Raif was a quiet man. He worked in a small office in Ankara. Every day, he arrived early and left late. He did not talk much to his coworkers. People thought he was boring and shy.
One day, a young man started working in the same office. He noticed that Raif was different from the others. Raif seemed sad and lonely. The young man wanted to know more about him.
A few years later, Raif became very ill. Before he died, he gave the young man a notebook. It was his personal diary.
The young man started reading it.
The diary told the story of Raif’s youth.
When Raif was a young man, his father sent him to Berlin, Germany. His father wanted him to learn about the soap business and help the family company in the future.
But Raif was not interested in business. He loved books, art, and music. He spent much of his time visiting museums and walking around the city.
One cold winter day, he went to an art exhibition.
There, he saw a painting of a woman wearing a fur coat.
The painting was beautiful. The woman’s face looked strong, intelligent, and mysterious. Raif could not stop looking at it.
He visited the exhibition again the next day.
And the day after that.
Every time he stood in front of the painting, he felt something special.
One afternoon, while he was looking at the painting, he noticed a woman standing nearby.
To his surprise, she looked exactly like the woman in the painting.
The woman smiled.
“I painted that picture,” she said.
Her name was Maria Puder.
Raif felt nervous, but Maria was friendly. Soon they started talking. They met again a few days later. Then they met many more times.
Maria was different from anyone Raif had ever known.
She was independent, confident, and talented. She worked as a singer in a nightclub and earned her own money. She did not want to depend on anyone.
Raif admired her.
At first, Maria did not want a romantic relationship. She told Raif that she did not trust people easily.
“I want a real friendship,” she said.
Raif agreed.
Their friendship became stronger every day. They visited museums, walked through the streets of Berlin, and talked for hours.
For the first time in his life, Raif felt truly understood.
He told Maria about his dreams, his fears, and his loneliness.

It is Saturday morning, and I wake up early. I open the kitchen window and look outside. The weather is sunny and warm.
I want to make a fresh lunch today, but my fridge is almost empty. So I write a short shopping list: tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggs, cheese, and some fruit.
Before I leave home, I take my big green market bag. I really like this bag because I can use it many times.
The farmers’ market is only ten minutes from my house, so I walk there. When I arrive, the market is already busy. People are walking between the stalls, sellers are talking to customers, and children are carrying small bags.
First, I stop at a vegetable stall.
“Good morning! How much are the tomatoes?” I ask.
“They are two euros a kilo,” the farmer says.
I look at the tomatoes carefully and choose five red ones. The farmer weighs them and puts them in my bag.
At the next stall, I see cucumbers and green peppers. I pick three cucumbers and four peppers.
Then I smell something sweet.
“What is that?” I ask.
“Fresh strawberries,” a woman says. “Would you like to taste one?”
I try a strawberry.
“Oh, it’s delicious!” I say.
So I buy a small box.
Next, I walk to a cheese stall. I taste two different kinds of cheese and choose the softer one. I also buy six eggs.
My market bag is getting heavy now.
Suddenly, an apple falls from another customer’s bag and rolls under a table. I notice it, pick it up, and give it back to the woman.
“Thank you!” she says.
“You’re welcome,” I reply.
Before I go home, I buy a loaf of fresh bread. I pay for it, put it carefully on top of the vegetables, and carry my full market bag home.
At home, I empty the bag onto the kitchen table. Everything looks fresh and colorful.
I smile and start preparing lunch.
Going to the farmers’ market takes a little more time than going to a supermarket. But I enjoy meeting local farmers, choosing fresh food, and carrying everything home in my favorite green bag.
