Superlative Adjectives Nedir?
Superlative adjectives, bir kişi veya nesnenin bir grup içerisindeki en üstün özelliğini ifade etmek için kullanılır.
Türkçedeki:
- en uzun
- en güzel
- en hızlı
- en pahalı
- en iyi
gibi ifadelerin İngilizcedeki karşılığıdır.
Örnek
Ali is the tallest student in the class.
Ali sınıftaki en uzun öğrencidir.
Burada Ali, sınıftaki diğer öğrencilerle karşılaştırılır ve en uzun kişi olduğu söylenir.
Comparative ve Superlative Arasındaki Fark
Comparative adjectives iki kişi veya şeyi karşılaştırır.
Superlative adjectives ise üç veya daha fazla kişi ya da şey arasındaki en üstün olanı belirtir.

Çoğu kısa sıfatın sonuna -est ekleriz.

2. Sonu -e ile Biten Sıfatlar
Sıfat zaten -e ile bitiyorsa sadece -st ekleriz.

3. Son Harfi İkiye Katlanan Sıfatlar
Bazı kısa sıfatlarda son harf iki kez yazılır ve ardından -est gelir.

4. Sonu -y ile Biten Sıfatlar
Sıfat ünsüz + y ile bitiyorsa y → i olur ve -est eklenir.

Uzun sıfatların sonuna -est eklemek yerine önlerine:

6. Düzensiz Superlative Adjectives
Bazı sıfatlar kurallara uymaz ve tamamen farklı şekilde değişir.

7. Superlative Önünde “The” Kullanımı
Superlative adjectives önünde çoğunlukla the kullanılır.

8. “In” Kullanımı
Bir yer veya grubun içinde en üstün olan kişiden ya da şeyden bahsederken sık sık in kullanılır.

9. “Of” Kullanımı
Belirli bir grup veya zaman diliminden bahsederken of kullanılabilir.

Ağustos yılın en sıcak aylarından biridir.
10. One of the + Superlative
Bir şeyin tek başına “en” olduğunu değil, en … olanlardan biri olduğunu söylemek için:
one of the + superlative + plural noun
kullanırız.

Istanbul is one of the biggest cities in Türkiye.
İstanbul Türkiye’nin en büyük şehirlerinden biridir.
She is one of the best students in the class.
O sınıftaki en iyi öğrencilerden biridir.
