Deniz’s Weight Loss Journey – Part 2

Meeting the Dietitian

Introduction

Welcome back to Deniz’s Weight Loss Journey.

Last time, Deniz decided to change her life. After trying on her favorite blue dress, she realized that she could not keep living the same way. Instead of waiting for another Monday, she made an appointment with a dietitian.

Let’s continue her story.

On Tuesday afternoon, Deniz finished work a little earlier than usual. She looked at the clock every few minutes because she didn’t want to be late for her appointment. Before leaving the office, she drank a glass of water, picked up her bag, and walked to the clinic.

The clinic was modern, clean, and very quiet. Soft music was playing in the waiting room, and the walls were covered with posters about healthy eating and active living. While she was waiting, Deniz looked around.

A young man was reading a magazine about sports. An older woman was drinking water from a large bottle. A mother was sitting next to her teenage son. Everyone seemed different, but they were all there for the same reason. They wanted to become healthier.

For a moment, Deniz felt less nervous.

A few minutes later, the door opened.

“Deniz?” a woman asked with a friendly smile.

“I’m Derya. Please come in.”

Derya’s office was simple but comfortable. There was a desk, two chairs, a computer, and a body analysis machine near the window.

“Before we talk,” Derya said, “I’d like to take a few measurements.”

Deniz stepped onto the machine.

It measured her weight, body fat, muscle mass, and body water.

Looking at the numbers made Deniz feel uncomfortable.

She wished they were different.

Derya noticed the expression on her face.

“Don’t worry,” she said kindly. “These numbers are not here to make you feel bad. They only help us understand where we are today.”

That simple sentence helped Deniz relax.

After that, they sat down together.

Instead of talking only about food, Derya wanted to understand Deniz’s daily life.

She asked about her job, her working hours, how she slept, how much water she drank, and what she usually ate during the day.

As Deniz answered the questions, she realized something.

She had never really thought about her habits before.

She often skipped breakfast because she woke up late.

She drank three or four cups of coffee every day but very little water.

She usually bought fast food because it was easy, not because it was healthy.

When she arrived home in the evening, she felt too tired to cook.

“I think I’m always in a hurry,” Deniz said.

Derya nodded.

“Many people are. That’s why we need a plan that fits your life, not someone else’s life.”

She opened a notebook and drew a simple plate.

“This is an easy way to think about your meals,” she explained.

“Half of your plate should be vegetables. One quarter should be protein, like chicken, fish, eggs, or yogurt. The last quarter can be rice, potatoes, or whole-grain bread.”

Deniz looked carefully at the drawing.

“It looks much simpler than I expected.”

“It is simple,” Derya replied. “Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated.”

Then she talked about another important subject.

“Hunger.”

“If you don’t eat breakfast, you become very hungry later. When people are very hungry, they usually eat too fast and too much.”

Deniz smiled.

“That’s exactly what happens to me.”

“So our first goal is not to eat less,” Derya said.

“Our first goal is to eat regularly.”

That was something Deniz had never heard before.

She always thought dieting meant eating as little as possible.

Before the appointment ended, Derya prepared a meal plan that matched Deniz’s working hours.

“You don’t have to cook every day,” she explained. “You can prepare tomorrow’s lunch this evening. It only takes twenty or thirty minutes.”

“That sounds possible,” Deniz said.

“And remember,” Derya continued, “you can still enjoy pizza, chocolate, or ice cream sometimes. Healthy people don’t eat perfectly every day. They simply make good choices most of the time.”

Those words stayed in Deniz’s mind.

On her way home, she stopped at a supermarket.

For the first time in months, she walked past the frozen pizzas without putting one into her basket.

Instead, she bought eggs, yogurt, chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, apples, bananas, oats, olive oil, and whole-grain bread.

Standing at the checkout, she looked at her shopping basket and smiled.

It looked completely different from her usual shopping.

At home, she watched a short cooking video and prepared grilled chicken with vegetables for the next day’s lunch.

The meal wasn’t perfect, but it smelled delicious.

As she packed her lunch box and placed it in the refrigerator, she felt proud of herself.

She hadn’t lost any weight yet.

Nothing had changed on the scale.

But something had already changed in her mind.

For the first time, she believed she really could build healthier habits.

Before going to bed, she looked at tomorrow’s schedule.

Then she smiled.

Tomorrow evening…

She was going to meet her personal trainer for the first time.
